About the project

After the huge success of creating Bzzz zones by sowing nectariferous seeds specially selected to delight pollinating insects, Agir pour Environnement decided to take the next step by proposing to create biodiversity reserves. Agir pour l'Environnement has decided to go a step further by proposing to create biodiversity reserves.

A biodiversity reserve is a small or large area left to evolve freely, i.e. without human intervention. Without pesticides or fertilizers, without mowing, without artificialization of any kind, where nature can gradually regain its rights.

The aim is twofold: to create a network of thousands of biodiversity reserves, while at the same time sending a political message. Indeed, each biodiversity reserve is also a cry of anger at the destruction of our natural world.

The collapse of ecosystems is undeniable. In less than 30 years, 30% of common birds have disappeared and 40% of insects are also threatened. Since the 1960s, half of all wetlands have been destroyed. And the artificialization of natural areas destroys the equivalent of the surface of a department every 7 to 10 years!

How to create a biodiversity reserve?

To do this, you have to stop intervening and let nature take its course. Whether you rent or own a garden, a balcony, a meadow or even a forest, you can do something about it! For the whole space or a small part of it, you just have to mark out an area and agree not to intervene.

The principle is simple:

A biodiversity reserve follows a ten-point charter:

1. A biodiversity reserve is an area without pesticides, fertilizers or chemicals of any kind
2. A biodiversity reserve is an area without hunting
3. Biodiversity reserve promotes darkness by limiting light pollution
4. A biodiversity reserve excludes grass cutting, hedge stripping and tree pruning.
5. A biodiversity reserve leaves the land at rest, preserves wetlands and cannot be cultivated, farmed or grazed.
6. A biodiversity reserve prohibits the passage of motorised objects.
7. A biodiversity reserve limits all harvesting (fruit, flowers, mushrooms, etc.) to a strict minimum
8. A biodiversity reserve tolerates recreational uses of nature as long as they are carried out with respect for the area through which they pass and on marked paths.
9. A biodiversity reserve is not a dumping ground or a bivouac, and does not host waste or fires.
10. A biodiversity reserve cannot be artificialized, concreted or paved over.
